From time to time, we like to take the time to highlight some of the most finely crafted brands we serve here at Runyah’s Room. Plus, when you have a backstory as interesting as that of tea brand Harney and Sons, it’s tough to not want to share it with the world!
For the Harney brand, our story has to go back before John Harney ever considered creating his own tea company. It was over 30 years ago, and John found himself managing the well known White Hart Inn. It was here that John began to foster a love of fine teas, and became curious about the craft surrounding them.
Mentored by Stanley Mason, John began to learn to create his own teas, which only furthered his interest in tea within the potential context of the business world. As a jump start into the industry, John began blending his own teas in his basement and would eventually begin adding them to the White Hart’s menu.
As John would soon find out, guests loved his blends and started coming back for more – they were a hit!
John soon set out on his own to continue following his passion and would quickly take his small personal business to an over 150-employee operation with over 300 produced unique tea blends!
Since long before they were operating out of a 90,000 square foot building in the Hudson Valley, Harney established his company’s guiding mission statement: To go above and beyond just delivering quality teas to their customers by also educating them on and introducing them to the world of tea that John Harney found so captivating some 30 years ago.
Three generations of Harneys have now worked in the company, whose legacy continues to grow daily.
The Harney story is truly one of passion and perseverance, and it’s one of the reasons we’re so proud to offer the tea to our guests today here at Runyah’s Room.
